Tariffs are no laughing matter
Explore how trade policies impact your wallet.
Welcome. We mix jokes with real money talk to help people understand how bad trade policies can hurt everyone. Our goal is to use memes and crypto to teach, share, and get people talking about the dangers of bad economic choices—especially tariffs that could cause big money problems and even a global recession.
When the U.S. President puts tariffs (extra taxes) on important materials like steel, aluminum, and lumber, it makes everything that uses those materials more expensive. For example, when steel costs go up, it hurts companies that make cars, houses, and home appliances. Car companies like Ford and General Motors have to pay more to build cars, which means they charge customers more or even lay off workers to save money. Companies like Whirlpool and GE, which make things like fridges and washing machines, also have to raise prices, making everyday things more expensive for families.
Aluminum is super important for making airplanes, soda cans, and electronics. When aluminum prices go up, airline companies like Boeing have to spend more to make planes, which makes plane tickets cost more. Soda and beer companies, like Coca-Cola and Budweiser, also pay more for their aluminum cans, which means you’ll have to pay more for a soda. Even tech companies like Apple and Dell struggle because aluminum is used in laptops and smartphones, making those more expensive, too.
Lumber tariffs make houses and furniture more expensive. Builders—both big companies like D.R. Horton and Lennar and small contractors—pay extra for wood, which means houses and apartments become more expensive. That makes it harder for people to afford homes or even rent a place to live. Furniture companies like American Furniture Warehouse also have to raise prices, making it harder for people to buy beds, tables, and chairs.
At Tariff Shariff, we use memes and crypto to spread the message: bad tariffs hurt everyone.
When trade wars go too far, we all pay the price.
